El Gobierno del Distrito Federal facilitará el trámite de copias certificadas de actas de nacimiento y de matrimonio para que los 450 mil capitalinos que radican en otros países, principalmente en Estados Unidos, puedan acceder a servicios, programas y otras acciones sin costo. Las secretarías de Desarrollo Rural y Equidad para las Comunidades, la de Finanzas y la Consejería Jurídica firmaron un convenio denominado bases de colaboración para la exención del pago de derechos del registro civil para migrantes.

El reciente debate migratorio en el Senado, que terminó con la derrota del proyecto de ley que hubiese permitido una vía a la ciudadanía a la mayoría de los 12 millones de trabajadores indocumentados, ha dado lugar a la mayor explosión de sentimientos antihispanos que he visto desde que llegué a este país hace tres décadas. La mayoría de los hispanos ve las cosas de la misma manera. Una encuesta nacional realizada por Bendixen y Asociados dice que el 76 por ciento de los hispanos en Estados Unidos está de acuerdo con la afirmación de que "el sentimiento antiinmigrante está creciendo en los Estados Unidos", y un 62 por ciento dice que este fenómeno los ha afectado directamente a ellos o a sus familias.

IEM: 156 ZACATECANOS MUERTOS EN 3 AÑOS AL BUSCAR LLEGAR A EU / GERARDO FLORES / LA JORNADA
De septiembre de 2004 a la fecha, 156 migrantes zacatecanos han muerto en su intento de avecindarse en Estados Unidos, dio a conocer el Instituto Estatal de Migración (IEM). El organismo reportó que durante 2005 fallecieron 36 aspirantes a indocumentados, cuyos cadáveres fueron regresados a Zacatecas con cargo funerario para el gobierno estatal. Indicó que en 2006 murieron 77 personas, y en lo que va de 2007, han ocurrido 43 muertes.

En un comunicado, la Procuraduría General de la República señaló que la detención del presunto pollero ocurrió a la altura de la avenida Francisco I. Madero del municipio fronterizo de Naco.

And Leroy Dixon's family-owned tent company in Glen Burnie employs a half-dozen Mexican workers through a visa program for circus laborers because, Dixon said, local workers usually quit when they are asked to put up a tent on a Sunday night or hoist a canopy before dawn. Employers who say they are feeling the pinch in a region marked by low unemployment and relatively high wages more often are turning to foreign workers, who have gone far beyond jobs they dominate such as cutting lawns and programming software.

Federal authorities have seized more than a half-million dollars from the bank accounts of a Silver Spring-based company whose employees were recently charged with fraudulently helping illegal aliens into the country. The purported scam involved using identifying information from former clients without their permission to help illegal aliens get work visas to enter the country, prosecutors said. Attorneys for the company, Overseas Employment and Information Services, have petitioned a federal judge in Baltimore to allow the return of the funds, saying the money is needed for legal defense.

Como parte de un programa nacional dedicado a operaciones para detener a "fugitivos", en los últimos dos años fiscales (de octubre de 2005 a octubre de 2007), el ICE habrá cuadruplicado sus equipos especiales de búsqueda, de 18 a 75.

A week ago, Wheat Ridge police arrested two alleged "coyotes," men who are accused of smuggling nine illegal immigrants into the United States. Guadelupe Alvarez and Bernardino Fuentes-Espinoza are each being held on $25,000 bail, but that could change today, when Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey may have to dismiss charges.
The problem with such cases across the state is that the people being transported who could corroborate the allegations may have been deported or have simply disappeared. Under a year-old state law that makes human smuggling a felony, the witnesses can't be held unless they also committed a crime. And without material witnesses, prosecution is difficult.

The student body is 36 percent black, 35.7 percent white, 14.7 percent Hispanic and 11 percent Asian, a makeup that district officials hope each school would reflect.

DETIENEN A ASALTANTES DE MIGRANTES EN CANANEA / IMAGEN DE ZACATECAS
Elementos de la Policía Estatal Investigadora (PEI) detuvieron a cinco presuntos asaltantes de migrantes en Cananea, cerca de la frontera Sonora-Arizona, y aseguraron un arma de fuego. En un comunicado, la corporación policiaca informó que arrestaron a Jorge Amador Ortega Márquez, alias “El Pony”, de 29 años de edad, originario de Villa Juárez, Sonora. Agregó que esta persona tenía fajada a la cintura una pistola tipo revólver calibre 38 especial, cargada con seis cartuchos.
Otro de los detenidos es Iván Alen Salazar, de 27 años, a quien le decomisaron un cuchillo, así como Diego Humberto Tapia Enríquez, Jacinto Castro Solano y Francisco Acuña Zorrilla

SECOND LANGUAGE, SECOND CLASS/ CAROL GOAR / TORONTO STAR
Every year, more than 100,000 adults in Ontario register for English-as-a-second-language courses. The lucky 22,500 get first-class treatment. Their program, known as LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada), is financed by the federal government and delivered by school boards, community colleges and immigrant organizations.
It is free. Child care is available. The remaining 80,000 aren't as fortunate.
Their program, known as non-credit ESL (English as a second language), is funded by the province. In most cases, modest fees are charged. There is no child care.
Nor does the Ontario government pay school boards enough to cover the cost of heat, hydro and janitorial services. As a result, some of these classes have been cancelled and more are in danger.
