La Organización Latinoamericana Pro Defensa del
Migrante —con sede en Houston— acusó que legisladores republicanos
están haciendo un “juego político” con el destino de 12 millones de
inmigrantes al darles esperanza de una reforma migratoria, “pero en
realidad no están haciendo nada, porque son unos racistas y sólo
cortejan los votos latinos para utilizarlos en el 2008”. En
tanto, Enrique Morones, (Consejero del IME 2003-2005 )
dirigente de Ángeles de a Frontera, con sede en San Diego,
advirtió que “cada día que los legisladores no se ponen de acuerdo
para una reforma migratoria, más hombres y mujeres mueren en la
frontera”.

RETRASA FBI TRÁMITES PARA
RESIDENCIA O CIUDADANÍA A INMIGRANTES EN EU/ EL FINANCIERO
La
Oficina Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) de Estados Unidos retrasa
la inspecciones de seguridad a los inmigrantes que buscan tramitar
su residencia legal o ciudadanía, lo que ha derivado en un grave
rezago con miles de casos en suspenso. El periódico The Washington
Post informó este día que desde 2005, el rezago de inmigrantes con
solicitudes de residencia o ciudadanía pendientes o atoradas
esperando la revisión de los nombres por parte del FBI se ha
duplicado hasta sumar más de 329 mil.

SONORA AIMS TO REASSURE INVESTORS FROM

Sonora has become
the first state in Mexico to enact a licensing requirement for real
estate agents, which may include criminal-background checks in
select U.S. states, including Arizona. Because the majority of
Sonora's foreign real estate investors are from Arizona, state
regulators applauded the new law, which was unveiled at the
Arizona-Mexico Commission meeting Thursday. Investing in Mexico is
safe, officials insisted, but while safeguards are in place, it's up
to buyers to exercise common sense.

whites tend to view them as a threat to the future. Hispanics
contend immigrants are eager to assimilate into American society and
learn English. Whites say they are less likely to assimilate than
previous generations, don't want to learn English, and are a burden
on schools and hospitals

Maura Martinez sought work for
months at clothing factories, restaurants and a mini- market. But
every employer demanded immigration papers. So she headed to the
Hollywood Community Job Center to try her luck as a day laborer. "If
the men can find work here, I can too," said Martinez, 47, an
undocumented immigrant from Mexico who goes to the center several
days a week. "With papers, without papers, men or women, we all come
to look for work." Immigrant women are increasingly joining the
throngs of men at day- labor centers across the U.S. But rather than
compete with men, who are seeking temporary construction or
gardening work, the women seek jobs as housecleaners or caretakers.

ranks along the Mexican border, the U.S. Border Patrol held a job
fair Saturday in Rosemont, the agency's first such event in the

recruits as the debate over immigration policy continues. The agency
currently employs about 12,000 agents.

El Centro de
Estudios Sociales y de Opinión Pública (CESOP) de la Cámara de
Diputados señaló que 49% de connacionales de 25 años o más que
emigran a Estados Unidos no cuentan con título secundario, y sólo el
8% tiene estudios universitarios completos, lo que origina salarios
más bajos por la falta de educación y preparación profesional.En un
informe del CESOP se advierte que esta migración ha formado un
contingente aproximado de 26.6 millones de personas de origen
mexicano, que representa el 65% de un total de 40.5 millones de
origen latino.

REVIVE LA REFORMA MIGRATORIA EN ESTADOS

El líder de la mayoría demócrata en el
Senado estadunidense, Harry Reid, y el de la minoría republicana,
Mitch McKonell, anunciaron hoy que la reforma migratoria que los
legisladores habían rechazado el pasado 7 de junio volverá a ser
debatida en el Capitolio. La noticia se produjo después de una
semana de duras negociaciones entre ambas bancadas y de que el
presidente George W. Bush intervino directamente para tratar de
salvar la iniciativa, anunciando la liberación de 4 mil 400 millones
de dólares para reforzar la seguridad fronteriza. La modificación
contempla la regularización de unos 12 millones de migrantes y un
programa de "trabajadores huéspedes", a los que se otorgarán
permisos de residencia por dos años, renovables hasta en tres
ocasiones.

to illegal immigrants prompted rallies Saturday on both sides of the
immigration issue. A group of several hundred people supporting
immigrant rights marched downtown to protest recent federal raids
that led to the arrests of more than 30 illegal aliens in the city.
The operation came two days after the city approved the program to
make municipal identification cards available to illegal immigrants.
